Eagle's First Blood
Summary
In response to pressure from Arab neighbors, the Syrians intercepted an attacking Israeli air force on June 27, 1979. The Syrian MiG21's were bounced by the attacking force's escorts. When the lopsided engagement was over, five MiG21's had impacted the hot desert floor, the Israelis went home without a scratch, and the F15 Eagle had bloodied its claws in combat for the first time.
Syrian: 6 MiG21 Fishbed ea. w/ 2 Atoll (Firestreak)
Israeli: 2 F15 Eagle ea. w/ 4 Shafir (AIM9J) and 4 Sparrow (AIM7E Sparrow); 2 Kfir ea. w/ 4 Shafir (R550 Magic)
Environment: Six Clear Skies
Starting: Roll as usual to determine the starting Environment cards. Both sides must start their own planes in the same Environment card. The Syrian player starts with two MiG21's in play.
Special Rules: Only TWO MiG21's may be in play at any one time. If one (or both) of the MiG21's is shot down, place another MiG21 (or two if both were shot down previously) in the Environment card closest to the Syrian player at the start of the next Initiative Phase. Assign an Initiative number to and draw a hand for any "new" aircraft before the Initiative card draw.
The Pilot Quality Optional Rules are in effect. The F15's are flown by Veteran pilots and the Kfirs are flown by Normal pilots. Roll 1D10 for each MiG21 at the start of the game or when they enter play. On a roll of 1-5 the MiG21 is flown by a Novice pilot. On a roll of 6-10 the MiG21 is flown by a Joker pilot.
Victory Conditions: The Syrian player wins by shooting down an F15 or by shooting down both Kfirs. The Israeli player wins by shooting down five or six MiG21's. Any other result is a draw. The game ends immediately if victory conditions are met or if all Israeli aircraft leave.
