Episode 6: Super Cheap Miniatures

This resource supports the Miniatures Gaming Podcast found here.

In Episode 6, I described how to paint inexpensive plastic figures to use in your miniatures games.

Below is a photo of the inexpensive miniatures I found for $1US.

Wash them well in hot, soapy water and let them dry completely.

Here are a couple of the figures unpainted:

You’ll need to prime your plastic miniatures. Krylon Fusion works best for plastic figures. Be sure to use 2519 Flat Black, not Gloss or Satin Black.

Once the primer coat is dry, you can paint your figures. I used Delta Ceramcoat acrylic paints. They seem to work well and are non-toxic.

Here are the paints I used. You don’t need to match these paints exactly, but be sure to use the Opaque paints. You’ll also need white.

2053 Dark Brown

2402 Sandstone

I used a silver Sharpie marker for the metallic gun parts.

You can use the drawings below as a guide to painting your plastic figures.

If you wish to paint your figures more accurately to represent a specific WW2 army, check out the painting guide here.
