In Episode 8, I described how to
create inexpensive urban terrain for use with your figures, and added new rules
for Pistols and Submachine Guns (SMG) to the Simple
Skirmish Game rules.
Update to SSG
Simple Skirmish Game Rules (Version 0.1)
Super Cheap Urban Terrain
Here’s what you’ll need:
·
two or three small
cardboard boxes, 2-6 inches (50 to 150 mm) on a side is about the right size
·
a sharp knife (hobby knife or serrated kitchen knife –
kids, get your parents to help!)
·
gray primer or flat
spray paint
Optionally, you’ll need the
following:
·
dark gray, white, or
black primer or flat spray paint
I found these boxes in the
office supplies cabinet at work and in the kitchen pantry at home. The largest
is about 4 inches by 5 inches (100 x 125 mm) and the smallest is about 2 ˝ by 4
inches (60 x 100 mm). It doesn’t matter how tall they are since we will cut
them down to size.

Here are the boxes after I’ve
cut out windows and doors and cut or torn them down in an irregular pattern to
represent ruined buildings. I placed a couple of the figures down next to the
boxes to get the window height above ground and the size of the windows in
proportion to the figures.

Here are the finished ruined
buildings, after spraying them with light and dark gray primer. Altogether I
spend about 15 minutes on these three buildings, and spend $0.

Here is a closeup
of one of the boys in action!
