First Minnesota Regimental Flag

The image above is of a 2/3 scale (4' x 4') reproduction flag I painted myself. The material is cotton, not silk as was originally used, and the "fringe" border has been added electronically.

I made this by projecting the image of an actual flag from an Illinois regiment onto the fabric and tracing using a fabric marker. Then I painted the eagle, banners, and stars by hand using inexpensive acrylic paint (Delta Creamcoat) mixed with fabric media.

Since my reenacting unit is the First Minnesota, I put the name of that regiment on the banner. I couldn't find an image of the First Minnesota's flag, so I guessed as to the wording and placement on the banner.
I don't claim this is an accurate reproduction of any specific historic flag -- it only represents the general style used by Federal regiments during the American Civil War, and was a fun weekend project.
